Streeterville
David Garcia
I like the eccentricities of Chicago's history; take Streeterville for example.
Streeterville contains some of Chicago's most valuable properties - Northwestern Hospital,
Water Tower and Michigan Avenue's Mag Mile. It was named after Cap Streeter,
said to be a Civil War captain. He made a living towing trash out to the lake.
Eventually, a man-made "trash bar" was formed and there he built and ran a bar
which catered to the lowest of lowlifes.
Alas, the city eventually ran him off the "land" and took control of the site -
the powers that be had deemed the drunken crowds to be too unruly and brazen.
This filled-in lake became Streeterville.
