Decades of Change

Our society today is youth oriented and our preocupation with climbing aboard the youth train is an accepted part of life. The old adage "improving with age" does not hold true for most things anymore. I have visited cities where time stood still or took a backward step. This does not apply to the city of Chicago. Our city has made a dramatic transformation. It has evolved into a world class center of education, culture and beauty, rivaling and surpassing some of the great cities worldwide.

Chicago has become a tourist mecca for both Americans and foreign travelers. Our museums, theatres, symphony, and opera are renowned. Our universities and medical institutions are constantly expanding and improving. The beauty of our lakefront can't be duplicated anywhere and the wide variety of shopping available fits all budgets. Summer has become one big party because of the numerous outdoor festivals taking place throughout the city and it has become a popular summer destination for travelers. Our neighborhoods have been and are being renovated, and urban flight has been replaced with urban renewal and desirability. Ethniticity is respected and diversity abounds.

I've watched these changes take place over the decades and I marvel at what's been accomplished. Chicago has definitely "improved with age."
